6 ways to stay healthy while traveling this summer [+ trips]

Summer time is filled with adventures and memories. For many it also consist of traveling. Taking trips from and to Texas and California, also trips out of town; I know how traveling can be [awful]. And when trying to stay healthy... it can be a disaster if not planned right. [which I don't know about you but when I either do not eat or eat something unhealthy, I feel like crap.] So if you are like me, this blog post will come in handy for you! With another trip from California to Texas and Texas to Montana I also think this is perfect timing. Even being into fitness for a few years, it is always nice for me to refresh myself on it all also.

So lets get to it ! 3500 calories equals one pound... Seems like a lot of calories huh? Here lets think of it this way. On your road trip you will most likely stop at a McDonalds or Jack in the Box. Why? Well because it is open all hours of the night. So you decided to get a Big Mac [530 calories] this does not include the drink or fries [together about 1220 calories...] This is already half of a pound you've added. Plus your two other meals you'll need to eat; 3660 calories. Welp there is a pound! Oh snacks also? Yupp add another pound or two.
Talk about a disaster.... So how can you travel smarter? It is going to take some preparing, not going to lie. But it is worth it! Trust me.

Tip one: Pack your own food, snacks included!
For some snacks try some fresh fruit or veggies, nuts, seeds, yogurt, trail mix, rice cake [caramel are my favorite], salad. What about lunches? pre make those meals! Half veggies, whatever you pick. get some carbs [healthy ones. french fries don't count.] I love sweet potatoes or beans. And then get some protein [I do chicken, steak, turkey!]

Tip two: If you do not want to pre make your meals, research food places near you.
It may sound stupid but it saves the headache of not knowing what to get that is healthy! Flame Broiler is a California thing but hitting it up before heading out of state, helps with a meal. Subway is another great one. Chipotle, Panera.

Tip three: Stop at a grocery store instead of a fast food chain.
Have you every thought of this? Well honestly you should try it out next time you are hungry and wanting to stop somewhere for food. Hit up the deli or see other made dishes in the store. It will give you healthier options and also can be cheaper!

Tip four: SLEEP!!!!
No do not sleep the whole entire time but you need to sleep. Try and stay on your sleep schedule. This is hard with Raul and I driving to Texas from California due to it being a 24 hour drive. When he drives, I sleep and other way around. But sleeping will stop you from eating out of bordem or/and help your metabolism stay in the right gear!

Tip five: Do not skip meals.
A lot of people think not eating will be best... Wrong. Your body is going to hold on to what is in your body and store it into fat. Your body is designed to do this. Reason you should eat.

Tip Six: Drink water, water, WATER!
Speed up your metabolism, stay hydrated. Stay away from sodas, coffee, other carbonated and sugary drinks! Help keep your energy up, snacking down, and reduce your stiffness.

Other tips: -If staying in a hotel when at your destination; go to the grocery store for healthy food options so you do not have to eat out for every single meal [Raul and I did this and it made a world of a difference. plus saved us a lot of money],
-Go sight seeing/hiking! Why not get some cardio in while enjoying your stay. This can be walking instead of driving up the road or even rent bikes to take around town rather than a taxi or your own car!
-Find a gym. Almost every single gym will give out guest pass. some for 3 days some for a week! Depending on the time of your stay, stop by and check out the closest gym! Or if you're lucky your hotel will have one. Then again, the great outdoors is FULL of all exercises you can do!

Now, HIT THE ROAD! You're all set. (:
